For people who have trained their own dogs and are looking for a place to certify them, TOP DOG offers a process of certification. But you must understand: TOP DOG certification is not something you buy; it's something you earn. There are two ways to begin this process. You can take the TEAMWORK: SERVICE DOGS ON LINE training course. You can take both the basic and advanced courses, OR you can take a test to skip the basic level and move right into the advanced course. Once you have completed the course, you will receive instructions on how to proceed to certification. Or if you feel you and your dog don't need the advanced course-that you are already working as a team, that your dog is under good control, and that he is helping you with several service exercises-you may apply directly for certification. This will require you to come to Tucson, AZ for 5-7 days, so that TOP DOG trainers can evaluate your level of training. We do not have any facilities, so you will need to stay in a motel (TOP DOG can arrange one for you) and provide for your own meals and transportation. We will offer several hours a day of instruction and observation for 3-4 days; then you will take our certification test. Either way, there is a non-refundable processing fee due at the time you apply for certification. This fee is $50 if you have taken the on line training course or $125 if you have not. You will see the certification test ahead of time, so you'll know exactly what's expected of you. We will do everything in our power to prepare you, but there is no guarantee of passing the test. But once you do pass, you will have achieved TOP DOG certification, which is valid for three years. Recertification at the end of the three years can be arranged.
